If you follow Western Tropical Astrology, you probably know Rahu as the North Lunar Node.

Rahu is the co-ruler of Aquarius in Vedic Astrology. He is associated with the 11th House and is said to be exalted in the 6th House.

He has a story that goes back to the churning of milk of the ocean. The milk or nectar was only meant for the gods. Rahu had already been denied the privilege to be a god earlier. He was deemed to be a demon and unworthy. However, Rahu was promised the nectar and disguised himself to get it. Halfway through drinking the nectar, he was beheaded. Leaving him immortal in an eternity of chasing his body around the Sun and Moon. Yet, he could never become one again. The body became later known as Ketu. When Rahu and Ketu catch up with the Sun or Moon it forms an eclipse. This is said to be his revenge. An ultimate time of darkness and uncertainty.

Rahu is a head without a body. So, he is always hungry but never satiated. This represents our ambitions and desires in this life. Rahu felt wrongly judged and entitled to have what he wanted. So, Rahu is the hunger to achieve at all costs. This means that Rahu can represent wrong actions depending on how you choose to use this energy. Rahu can be deceptive, manipulative, and rebellious against all laws. Or Rahu can know how to work the system legally and how to think outside the box. This is a very ingenious planet that influences future advancement. Many innovative minds have Rahu prominent in their natal chart. Rahu was also rejected for being different. So, Rahu represents qualities that are foreign, unusual, and misunderstood. Many eccentric people have associations with Rahu. He can also represent a culture foreign to your own or something outside your comfort zone. Rahu is never satisfied with the past or anything comfortable. His agenda is to lead you towards your material goals and into the future. This can also be a very unstable planet. Rahu is associated with mental illness, physical ailments, and unexpected events. He is always unpredictable. Rahu rules the air element. This connects Rahu to airplanes, outer space, travel, change, invasion, and diseases that travel through the air.

Rahu is always opposite to Ketu. Ketu serves the opposite purpose. Ketu is connected to inner transformation, past lives, spirituality, dissatisfaction, liberation, and explosions. It is said that if we lean too far toward Rahu, we will become obsessed with the Maya (material illusion). Rahu is also sometimes overwhelming. We want it, but we can become afraid because it’s unknown to us. If we lead too far to Ketu, we will become disillusioned. This is because Ketu takes us to Moksha (liberation). Reality will fade as we discover the deeper truth. Causing us to lose our anchor to this world and to become unhappy with it altogether.

So, the idea is to use the past skills of Ketu as a way to move towards the ambition of Rahu. How this plays out for you will depend on your Astrology. Contact me at Astro Charts with Daquan to see how you can schedule an appointment with me. Thanks for reading!
