Tiger Zodiac Animal

3rd to Win the Race: The Brave and Dynamic

In my Thoughts on 2022, I mentioned that 2022 is the Year of the Water Tiger. I'm super excited to discuss more on the Tiger because I was also born in the Year of the Tiger! In our previous post on Chinese Astrology, we also discussed the Rat. To learn more about the Rat, check out Rat Zodiac Animal.

In the Chinese story, the Jade Emperor decided to call a great race. Animals would race to determine the ordering of the Chinese Calendar. The Rat suggested to the cat that they come up with a clever strategy because neither one of them could swim. So they asked the ox for help. The ox was a kind and supportive animal. So, he agreed to carry them on his back. When they approached the finish line, the rat pushed the cat into the water. So, the cat lost by default of not being able to swim. Then the rat leaped ahead of the ox at the last moment. Making the rat the first to win the race. Then the ox followed. It is said that the tiger wasn't as careful and strategic as they were. However, the tiger had strength and resilience on his side. So, even with making reckless mistakes, the tiger still caught up to them to pass the finish line in 3rd place. Instead of the tiger relying on a brilliant plan or help from others, he used raw power and natural instincts to plow his way ahead. This describes the nature of those born under this Zodiac Animal.

Tiger never gives up and is a powerhouse of energy. He is one of the strongest of the Zodiac Animals and he follows the principle of Yang/masculine rather than Yin/feminine. Meaning that the tiger doesn't stop to consider all of the options or come up with a well-structured plan. The tiger is highly intelligent and capable. However, he is also a passionate and tenacious animal. So, the tiger doesn't want to be bossed around or wait for anything. He just drives through obstacles and achieves results quickly. Even if the tiger gets into trouble or meets defeat, he just gets back up and continues fighting. This represents the enthusiasm and willpower that's found in Tiger people. Tiger individuals aren't necessarily aggressive people. They are actually very friendly and optimistic. Tigers like adventure and are "adrenaline junkies". They are also very generous and show a lot of affection towards loved ones. Especially on a romantic level. It's usually enjoyable to be around them and they can be very charming romantically. However, even though they aren't likely to start a confrontation, they will finish it. Once a tiger is backed into a corner, they become very argumentative and aggressive. Not only this, they are relentless and won't back down until their opponent is defeated. A true force to be reckoned with. Also, they are usually an unstoppable force in their tasks and responsibilities. The level of passion that a tiger can put into work, routine, and projects is astonishing.

It is actually well-known that the Tiger was originally said to be a Lion in the Chinese Zodiac. This is because of the raw power and leadership potential that this animal holds. He is depicted as a military general or an emperor by some. Especially when it comes to the great protectors that hold the balance of the universe. The vermillion bird is depicted as the guardian of the South, and the black tortoise entwined with a serpent is the guardian of the North. In the east is the Azure dragon and in the west is the white tiger. The tiger and dragon are said to be the most powerful yet they live in opposite directions. So, they embody opposite qualities and therefore disagree with one another. They are always battling one another but neither one can defeat the other. This represents the balance of Yin and Yang. As the dragon embodies the qualities of Yin. Yin is the metal element that focuses on the mind and spirit. Metal individuals are thinkers and intuitives that can figure out complex solutions to problems. However, the tiger operates on Yang or wood. Wood is more about what you can tangibly interact with and what makes sense in the real world. (This is also why they are the protectors of each other's elements. Yin is born from the light of the yang and yang is born from the dark of the Yin.) So, Tiger doesn't care to strategize. He only sticks to what makes sense and the things that are straightforward. On the positive side, this means that you will know where you stand with a tiger. They are very sincere and direct in their approach. However, it also means that tigers can be rash and impulsive at times. Especially when in a bad mood, they can become completely unstable.
